Loss of hair has been studied and commented on throughout history and hair loss statistics today say that over 50% of men will suffer from hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. However a strange study of eunuchs (males without genitals) that were castrated at birth now indicate that they never in fact went bald.
Studies show that men who were perhaps injured in battle or lost their genitals also never went bald. This was the first indication that testosterone has something to do with hair loss, and also strengthens that old adagio that 'bald men are more virile' it seems there is more truth in that old wives tale that people gave credit for.
In the past many hair loss myths have arisen, but now due to medical advancements these myths are being addressed and some truths are emerging. baldness has always been considered as genetic, or at least male pattern baldness is. Now it is thought that it was passed down only through the mother gene, however recent studies show now that it can in fact be from both sides too.
The effects of a high fat diet is also a factor that medical science is finding direct relations too. It was noted that during the second world war when there was an increase in low fat diets, this actually triggered an increase in male pattern baldness. Contrary to countries such as Africa and some Asian countries, these men in their native countries traditionally suffer less baldness because their society consumes a lower fat ratio diet. Therefore a change in diets today may actually be a contributing factor that will indicate more baldness in the future.
Diets high in fat do actually increase testosterone, and so there is a few foods which we can limit and avoid the intake of. Caffeine, nicotine and sugar can also take away the bodies nutrients and give rise to adrenal levels. This in turn can cause a chain reaction by producing more androgen and causes hair loss. Also common table salt has also been linked to hair loss, so to limit sodium intake is also a good way to avoid male pattern baldness. Its also no secret that hormones in chicken and meat are having adverse affects on society and our hormone levels too.
To conclude that there is a definite connection between male pattern baldness and the male prostrate gland, most prostration diseases have treatments that also have factors which cause the hair to grow on those heads taking it. So it is likely these answers to baldness and hair loss will be solidified in the not too distant future.
If you are interested in reducing male pattern baldness or eliminating the risks of it developing, then its worth remembering that hair is in fact a natural living protein (keratin to be exact) so a healthy balanced and nutritious diet is essential to maintaining a healthy head of hair. However castrating oneself to prevent male pattern baldness is something we don't advise, although some women might disagree - but for the wrong reasons I'm sure.
Another helpful way of reducing baldness is to visit your local Hair Salon and mention to them that you want a protein based Hair treatment after your cut. Also massage of the scalp can stimulate the cuticles and enhance regrowth.
